This year of statistics and probability was one that included a great amount of learning and realization. One of the most valuable things that I learned in this class would have to be the utilization of standardization. My favorite chapter was the one where we were taught how to use z-scores and compare two separate datasets. I found this chapter so intriguing because it is a very practical method of comparison and it can be utilized for many different subjects and situations. I find the class of statistics and probability very useful and interesting because there is a clear relevance to everyday life, and there are many occupations and areas of study that require the use of statistics. Something we covered this year that will relate to my career is double blind experiments and surveys because I am going into the health field and I plan on using research to help determine the most optimal procedures. Probability will also relate to my future career because I will need to inform patients of the risks and hazards of radiation, and also the chance that the treatments will work or not. Going into this class, I was worried that I would be uninterested in the content and that it wouldn’t relate to my everyday life such as man math class I have taken seem. I was relieved to find that this class was actually applicable to countless aspects of life and the majority of the problems were story problems and examples of statistics and probability being used everyday; this brought a sense of purpose and meaning to the content, which motivated me to learn much more. This class was quite math intensive, which will be very beneficial when I transition to college and am presented with much more difficult math classes. Each and every chapter requires that we used extensive and complex formulas and understand the meaning of each variable, which is an invaluable skill in almost any math class. One aspect of statistics and probability that I would like to expand upon would be my knowledge of charts and graphs. The reason I find this aspect of the class important is because in my career I will need to understand and interpret many different types of graphs, so the more knowledge and experience on this topic the better. Overall I benefitted greatly from the class of statistics and probability by its challenging formulas and variables, its everyday life applications, and the necessary lessons that I learned which will pertain to my future career in the health and science field.
